Today I finally went to the place were I can find the hoopoe. As I only had a bit more than an hour, I directly went to the place were they are. After I arrived I could take 3 pics which were not the best. And for the next hour there was nothing. I had to go back to my car at 12:45 and at 12:44 I still only had the 3 pics. But believe it or not, at 12:45 one of them came and sat down on a tree. I shot  whole series without stopping the camera. So I could also get some pics in "action". After that the hoopoe changed to another branch, were I could shot a second series of pics. Unfortunately I lost the focus short before the hoopoe left again.

Today, I took pictures of the following animal:

  • Hoopoe

At the end it was a successful day with a bit luck... :-)

Today I wanted to to visit the hoopoe. After I have seen my first (female) red-backed shrike two days before, I decided to have a short stop at the Mönchbruch natural reserve IOT look out for the male. After a couple of minutes I saw the female at the same place as before, but no male. But only a few minutes later, also the male appeared. I could take a couple of good shots from both, but unfortunately always separated from each other. The male was a bit more shy than the female. After about 3 hours of observing them I went to another place were I saw some deers with starling on their back. A bit far away and the head almost always in the high grass. So I went back to the red-backe shrikes and could take a couple of more pics. The best of this day.

Today, I took pictures of the following animals:

  • Deer
  • Red-backed shrike
  • Starling

At the end it was a successful day, but I forgot to go to the hoopoe. So maybe tomorrow...

Vielleicht morgen...

This day was again an unpredictable day regarding the weather. As the rest of May until so far. I decided to go to Nauheim IOT look for the hoopoe. On the way to it, I decided to stop at the Mönchbruch natural reserve. When I arrived there, I saw a couple of photographers near a little creek. They took photos of a female red back. So I decided to stay and also try my luck and got a couple of good pictures. My first red back so far!! I also took pics of a Canada geese family before I went further. next stop was the so called Lindensee, but after 3 minutes of walking, it started to rain, so I went back to my car and drove to Nauheim. There I had to walk about 15 minutes o the place were the hoopoes are. Arrived there, I took about 10 pics, before it started to rain again. On the way back to my car again, it stopped raining and I decided to give it a last try. And this was a good idea, because I took a couple of recent pics of the hoopoes.

This day, I took pictures of the following animals:

  • Canada goose
  • Deer
  • Hoopoe
  • Red back

At the end it was a successful day!

Today I went to the so called Obewiesensee, a little pond for fishermen in the middle of the natural reserve called Mönchbruch in Hesse, Germany. On the way to it I stopped at a feeding place for songbirds IOT shoot some pictures of them. At the beginning it was a bit difficult to take pics of them, but then I became more and more comfortable with them. The highlight was a grosbeak visiting me. After that I went to the already mentioned pond and took some pics of geese and a snake, which surprised me when I tried to lay down to get a better angle for the geese. :-)

I got pictures of the following birds and reptiles:

  • Canada goose
  • Chaffinch
  • Coal tit
  • Egyptian goose
  • Grass snake
  • Grosbeak
  • Turtle
  • Woodpecker

All in all it was a great day! As almost always... :-)

  • Barren Ringelnatter
  • Buchfink
  • Buntsprecht
  • Kanadagans
  • Kernbeißer
  • Kohlmeise
  • Nilgans
  • Schildkröte

Alles in allem wieder ein guter Tag! Wie fast immer.... :-)

As I didn't reach my goal to take pictures of the Mandarin duck chicks yesterday, I went again to the pond called Jacobiweiher which is located in the middle of the city forest of Frankfurt/Main. The weather was as unpredictable as the day before, but I was able to take some nice shots from the Mandarin duck family including the chicks and also a family of Canadian geese. After it started to rain, I went home IOT sort my pictures and delete (a lot!) pictures, which were not that good quality or to similar to others.

Whilst I was working on my pictures, the sun came back and I decided to go to the pond again and shoot some more pics. I found a place were I could lay down between some rocks and take pics of the mosquito-hunting Mandarin duck chicks.

I got pictures of the following birds:

  • Canada goose
  • Cormorant
  • Grey heron
  • Mandarin duck
  • Yellow Wagtail

All in all it was a great day!

  • Graureiher
  • Kanadagans
  • Kormoran
  • Mandarinente
  • Schafsstelze

Alles in allem wieder ein guter Tag!

Today I went to a pond called Jacobiweiher which is located in the middle of the city forest of Frankfurt/Main. It is the only pond I know, were you can find a colony of mandarin ducks. I was there, because I saw some pics on Instagram with chicks.

I got pictures of the following birds:

  • Mandarin duck

This was the first time, I could take pictures of the ducks walking outside the water. Unfortunately I couldn't take pics of the chicks, because a thunderstorm interrupted me.

Today I went to a pond called Reinheimer Teich which is a natural reserve in Hesse, Germany. It is famous for its water fowls. Even a whit-tailed eagle appears there from time to time. I went there, because I knew that the great crested grebes had their chicks in a nest not far away from the edge of the water.

I got pictures of the following birds:

  • Canada goose
  • Great crested grebe
  • Grey heron
  • Kingfisher
  • Red milan

I was able to take pictures from Canadian geese in action, the great crested grebes feeding their chicks and even a kingfisher in action and flying away with a little fish. All in all it was a great day!

Another day in Nauheim, Germany. An area of meadows and orchads and a beautiful forest. Looked again for the Hoopoe, heard it, but could not find it.

I got pictures of the following animals:

  • Blackbird
  • Deer
  • Kestrel
  • Turtledove
  • Wagtail

Even I could not find the hoopoe this day, I got some nice pics. All in all it was a great day!

Noch ein Tag in Nauheim, Deutschland. Ein Gebiet mit Wiesen, Obstplantagen und einem wunderschönen Wald. Hab erneut Ausschau nach dem Wiedehopf gehalten. Habe ihn zwar gehört, jedoch leider nicht gefunden.

Ich konnte Bilder von folgenden Vögeln machen:

  • Amsel
  • Bachstelze
  • Reh
  • Turmfalke
  • Turteltaube
  • Roter Milan
